After all, what is a refrigerator and what are its functions?

A refrigerator is a technological piece of equipment, domestic or commercial, used to cool and preserve food and other perishable substances, that is, substances that deteriorate over time. Thus, this device is designed to maintain a low internal temperature, approximately 2°C, in order to retard bacterial growth and extend the shelf life of foods.

With the aid of a refrigerator, it is possible to keep food fresh, retain its quality, flavor and nutrient value, safeguarding possible waste and guaranteeing the appropriate conditions for the final consumer.

In a practical way, a cooler acts with the intention of transferring the internal heat of the equipment to its exterior. This is why it is possible to feel heat on the side/back of the refrigerator.

What are the main constituents of a refrigerator?

Refrigeration equipment is made up of various components that ensure the refrigeration of the products in evidence. Thus, the following items should be highlighted: compressor, condenser and evaporator.

Compressor: it is the “heart” of the equipment, which plays a crucial role in the refrigeration cycle: it is responsible for extracting the refrigerant from the evaporator (where it is in the gaseous state of low pressure and temperature) and compressing it into a state of pressure and high temperature, called superheated refrigerant;

Condenser: located in the rear unit of the equipment, the condenser captures the high pressure and temperature refrigerant coming from the compressor, where the heat of the refrigerant liquid is sent to the outside; that is, the refrigerant changes from gas to liquid;

Evaporator: inside the refrigerating equipment, the evaporator ensures that the products always remain fresh. Depending on the physical state of the refrigerant, from liquid to gas, evaporation enables cooling around it, providing a suitable storage environment.
